Birkett 6 Hour Enduro Race

On Saturday the 30th October OX4Racing won the 60th ‘Holly’ Birkett 6hr Endurance Relay Race at Silverstone at their first attempt!. The race was a team relay event on the Silverstone GP circuit, consisting of 61 teams of up to 6 cars and Drivers. The variety of cars ranged from le Mans endurance prototypes to Hillman Imps! Because of the mixture of cars and performance levels, each team was given a lap based handicap based on known times around UK circuits. From these handicaps a grid was formed with credit and debit laps allocated to each team to level the playing field. It was then time to go racing!

Team OX4R started in 21s on the grid with a 13 lap credit handicap. In the first half of the race the conditions were dry which enabled the team to put in a solid performance that surprised the rest of the field. In the second half of the race the weather conditions turned and gave the team the opportunity to display their talents in the wet. All the drivers performed faultlessly in the tricky conditions displaying excellent pace in comparison with the competition. With 1hr to go, team OX4R were in lead, but only just. The team pushed the cars to the limit to maintain the lead, but with 3 laps to go they received a stop/go penalty for overtaking under yellow flag conditions. This was a massive blow to the team, but they continued to push to the chequered flag taking victory by 1 lap. The team owes a massive thanks to everyone who supported the event, our external sponsors and internal MINI UK network partners from the 2010 season.
